Bonana van mil est née au Botswana. Elle a vécu avec ses parents aux Pays-Bas où elle fait des études de stylisme en 2004. En Belgique, elle rejoint l'atelier d'Ann Demeulemeester, et à Sydney, celui d'Akira Isogawa. Finalement, elle s'installe à Paris dans un atelier où elle dessine à la main ses motifs sur soie.

Bonana van Mil travaille les matières naturelles et assume son faible pour la soie pure qui rend si bien hommage aux couleurs chatoyantes qu’elle manie avec passion et précision. Elle crée aujourd’hui sa ligne d’accessoires sous son propre nom, créés et réalisés entièrement à la main, chaque pièce, chaque détail étant donc unique.

Bonana van mil is born in Botswana. She lived with her parents in Holland where she studied stylism in 2004. In Belgium, she worked for Ann Demeulemeester and in Sydney, for Akira Isogawa. Finally, she settled down in Paris in a workshop where she draws by hand patterns on silk.

Bonana van Mil works the natural materials and knows her weakness for the pure silk which pays so well tribute in the brilliant colors that she handles with passion and precision. Now she creates her accessories with her name, created and realised by hand, each piece, each detail beeing unique.

COLLECTIF PARENTHESE - INSPIRING FOLKS //

Installation en cours, Boulevard du Jeu de Paume, Montpellier

Ce collectif c'est l'histoire d'une bande de potes, associés dans une aventure humaine et architecturale. On avait parlé des kinfolks il y a peu, et ce collectif est un autre bel exemple de gens passionnés.

C'est le besoin commun d'un endroit, d'un "support de réflexion sur les pratiques de l'espace public", sur les manières de l'investir et de le partager ou même de le ré-inventer qui est à l'origine de la structure.

A l'école*, on fait beaucoup de théorie, quelques workshop permettent aux étudiants de construire, de bâtir et de voir leurs idées prendre forme et être pratiquées. En agence, on est parfois contraint à dessiner les idées des autres, on perd un peu de notre liberté de conception. Le collectif permet de palier à cela. C'est comme un labo, ils tentent, ils améliorent, ils ajustent, ils font, tout simplement.

Ils sont d'horizons différents, ils ont des compétences et des envies multiples mais se retrouvent inlassablement sur ce besoin de créer et partager l'architecture de l'espace public. C'est donc naturellement que chacun a trouvé sa place et son rôle au sein de l'organisation.

Aujourd'hui ils ont plusieurs festivals à leur actif mais aussi des collaborations avec d'autres collectifs, des artistes, des artisans… Ils sont toujours avides de nouvelles tentatives, de toucher à d'autres matériaux, d'autres disciplines et les possibilités sont infinies.

Bref, il me semble que c'est une initiative plutôt géniale, et vue leur actualité, le travail paie! Si vous êtes dans le coin, aller faire un tour boulevard du Jeu de Paume - ils y sont en résidence - ils ont fait de la rue une grande aire de détente et de jeu. Erwan Fichou is a young Breton photographer and artist. He likes catching wacky scenes. Sometimes he imagines and create theses situations, sometimes no it is pure reality. Here is an extract of his numerous series:

Crimaster: participants to the french championship of cry cock.

Miradors: staging of urban miradors in the streets of Mexico.

Dogwool: portraits of dogs and their masters; the masters are wearing knitted clothing from their dog hair.

Fétiches: a selection of american fishing flies.

BACK TO BASICS //

I have been thinking for a few years about the daily impact I can have on the environment. Everyone's telling us about different solutions and ways to consume differently and I decided to play along. Sometimes it is as simple as choosing a yogurt in the large size instead of the individual ones. It may also be a choice about the way of transport I use to go to my workplace or even about choosing to consume seasonal fruits and vegetables and encourage local producers rather than buying products that come from the other side of the world. To me, it's a real lifestyle choice in itself. Because sometimes I prefer like everyone else avoiding walking for 5 minutes to find a recycling bin for glass, for example. And yet I will not yield, I do it every week even if it takes me a little time. Then maybe occasionally I'll make an article on my way to consume and about the choices I make everyday.

Today I tested for you soap nuts. And here is an habit you must begin to lose first: the smell of clean laundry. I asked myself how our great mothers did to wash clothes before the consumer society invented detergent. 

First of all we used a household soap for the washing by hand - soap from Marseille. And then, little by little during a year or two, we progressively stopped detergent brands such as LE CHAT or ARIEL which use many perfumes but also a lot of toxic and irritating products. We were still using  industrial laundry at the time but with the ones with more green features and less toxic products. Which means no fragrance. Initially, it is disturbing because brands have succeeded in making us associate clean to an odor and if we do not smell it, we get the impression that the laundry is still dirty. So, after this long time of using an ecological standard detergent, I wanted to go further and went for soap nuts for various reasons. It's been three weeks since I only use soap nuts. I started by washing clothes with stains on such as tablecloths, towels etc.  And all stains were gone. Today I am totally satisfied with this method of washing and I will continue cleaning most of my clothes with these nuts while using occasionally detergent for extreme cases.

In terms of packaging for soap nuts, this one was created by Anne Ouellette who is from Quebec. I found it so beautiful I wanted her work to illustrate my point.

6 MONTHS IN SOUTH AMERICA //

Two years ago, I studied the organisation of illegal settlements in north Lima for my master's memoir.  At the end of the semester I took off, went to an association there to investigate on the field for 3 months. After what I travelled around for another 3 months. It'es been difficult to sum up this whole adventure and I haven't find the right way to put yet. I figured this could be an appropriate place. So I'll post articles, like I would have written them on a travel journal - places by places. I hope you'll enjoy it, this may remind you of previous trips of your own or inspire you to go. 

I must say I've been blessed on this journey. I met such amazing people, spent quality time with friends on the way and got to discover places, colors, smiles, feelings… I'll never forget. 

Thank you all so much for sharing a piece of your world with me. I'll carry it within anywhere I'll go now.
